Music ID is sponsoring a new Digital Research Fellowship in popular music studies.
Music ID is a platform aimed at academics that compiles current and historical music industry data into a single, easy-to-use source. Incorporating 5,452 different charts spanning 74 countries, Music ID provides access to chart information from Billboard and the Official Charts Company dating back to the 1950s, as well as contemporary, day-to-day statistics on iTunes downloads, Spotify and Apple Music streams, and Shazam searches. It also includes built-in visualization tools which allow users to create and export customizable tables and graphs.
The fellowship will be awarded to a scholar whose work best incorporates data in popular music research; special preference will be given to proposals that demonstrate how they will benefit from access to the Music ID platform. The recipient will receive $1,000 and access to Music ID for one year. All other applicants will receive six months of access to the platform.
In order to be considered, interested applicants must send an anonymized, one-page research plan as a PDF to fellowship@academicrightspress.com by August 1, 2018. The recipient will be chosen through a blind review process.
Submissions from faculty, independent scholars, and graduate students are all encouraged and welcome. International applicants are also welcome, but all submissions must be in English.
