Making Music – Producing Sound: The Nordic Angle
IASPM Norden Conference
Oslo, Norway
3–4 December 2014
We are happy to announce that the Nordic branch of IASPM will arrange a conference at the University of Oslo in collaboration with the 9th Art of Record Production conference. We will have a joint day and a keynote held by the Norwegian star production team Stargate open for participations from both conferences.
The IASPM Norden conference wishes to shed light on the working conditions for musicians and artists of popular music genres within the Nordic countries. The Nordic popular music scene is an active arena of ambitious bands and artists striving for success, on a national as well as an international level. Notably, we would like to excavate and question the overarching ideological perspectives of reputation, positions and hierarchies, instrumental incentives like governmental subsidies and support for education and training, new technologies of production and mediation and the negotiation of identity and subjectivity.
Thus, we welcome proposals, for example, but by no means exclusively, on the following topics:
– composing and performing popular music
– cultural politics
– sound and music production
– disseminating and distributing popular music
The first two topics are subheadings for the main topic of the first day, “making music”, while the succeeding topics are connected to the ARP conference and the main topic of the second day, “producing sound”, with a joint panel on the topic “Record Production in the Internet Age”.
Proposals on topics with comparative regional perspectives and also other topics of popular music studies are welcome.
The official language of the conference is English.
The proposal should include the following:
– Title(s), name(s) and affiliation(s).
– Title of the presentation.
– Abstract of the presentation (max. 200 words) and three keywords.
Please send the proposal as electronic mail attachment in doc/docx/pdf format to h.t.zeiner-henriksen[at]imv.uio.no no later than 1 June 2014. Please label your attachment surname.xxx (e.g. Obama.pdf).
